Under the chairmanship of Mel Davis, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter’s Social Action Program took the form of a leadership program aimed at training young men of the Alain Leroy Locke High School. This initiative, known as the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, was designed to help these young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents across various aspects of life. It provided both challenging and rewarding experiences that significantly enhanced their lives. Membership was open to male students from the tenth through the twelfth grades, as the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity sought to assist these young men in achieving worthy goals and making constructive contributions to their community when they step into leadership roles.
Kappa League was founded on Thursday, February 12, 1969, by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., at Alain Leroy Locke High School. The program was officially adopted by the Grand Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. at the 56th Grand Chapter held from August 12-15, 1970. The founders of the Kappa Instructional Leadership League were Mel L. Davis, an Elder Watson Diggs Awardee, and Edgar H. Bishop.
Kappa League serves as a comprehensive program for the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 6th-12th.
The Kappa League, part of the Cal-City Lansing Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, was hosted by the University of Illinois for a campus tour and a sneak peek at the athletic facilities. This initiative is a continuation of our commitment to pouring into our youth through a robust leadership program.
